IRRESISTIBLE PRAYERS

(Excerpt from W.A.Vega ~ “The Surrogates Sons”)
“The unfinished basement was bare except for a few throw pillows, and a metal rectangular table. There was one small window that let in natural light and two overhead light bulbs. The walls and floor were bare foundation concrete. Despite the meager surroundings, anywhere from fifteen to twenty teenagers eagerly spent their Friday nights in this unattractive basement. The group had been meeting for the last five years to pray for their needs, their schools, community and the nation.
With the beginning of a new school year, the group gathered in anticipation of getting God’s vision for personal needs and for their respective schools. The Fervent Fire group, (F2) comprised of a handful of teenagers, with one commonality, their passion and commitment to Jesus Christ.
As was her custom on Fridays, High School senior, Bellah Johnson, selected a short scripture verse to be the focus of prayer. On this night, she selected, Proverbs 3:5-7:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.”
There was a dreamlike silence as Bellah finished reading the verses. Each attendee nodded in agreement excited at the prospect of strengthening their faith; each with an unspoken expectation of what the path to strong faith entailed; and each unconsciously leaning on their own understanding.
At the end of Bellah’s message, they bowed in prayer and passionately bombarded the gates of heaven for faith to move mountains, faith to change their world, their school and faith to stand for righteousness. No one in the group could have imagined how God would fulfill their courageous request.”
