“….For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

“Narrow” is a word I’m not fond of, especially when it comes to a slice of chocolate cake.  But imagine for a moment, God’s definition of “narrow.”  Let’s go back to the beginning, in the garden paradise, where Adam and Eve had everything at their disposal, all but one, eating from the tree of good and evil.

Let’s focus on all they had:

  • Taking long walks with Father God
  • Eating all they wanted (except from that one tree) from the unlimited choices at their disposal without gaining weight….
  • Enjoying the love and companionship of each other forever
  • Bearing children without pain (even my imagination can hardly imagine this one)
  • Enjoying the work of their hands, mind, and seeing the fruit of their labor of love whatever that would be in a garden paradise
  • No taxes
  • No wrinkles
  • No poverty
  • No aging
  • No sickness
  • No death
  • This list is unlimited – only to exclude that one thing…eating from the tree of good and evil.

Moreover, GOD’s definition of ‘narrow’ in creation is visible in the depth of the ocean, the heights of the mountain, the expanse of the sky and the breadth of the universe.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:13, to “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction…because narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

My friend, the Narrow Way and the only Gate to heaven, is Jesus Christ Himself.  He is the narrow gateway.  When we choose this one way, we find that He says to the barren woman “…..Enlarge the place of your tent and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.  For you shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations…” (Isaiah 54:2-3). And like David, you will realize that the “earth is indeed, the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24)  And it is His good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. (Luke 12:32)

King David said “He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me….You enlarged my path under me…” (Psalm 18). Truth is, it is through this narrow way that we enter the broad way that leads to life and freedom. Freedom to deny ourselves and choose God. Freedom to die yet live.  Freedom to walk by the Spirit of God and not according to our flesh.  Freedom to choose His will on earth as it is in Heaven

It is this narrow way that leads to life, and that life more abundantly. (John 10:10)
