DEFYING GRAVITY

DEFYING GRAVITY

Inspiration comes in different formats, different places and in different ways.  When I heard the song, “Defying Gravity,” from the Broadway musical Wicked, my heart stirred.  The words repeatedly resounded in my soul, so much so, that I memorized and changed some of the lyrics to make it my own.  I heard the words, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) and “…As He is, so are we in this world.”  (1 John 4:17).  Jesus Christ defied gravity, then so will I.

I refer to the term “Defying Gravity” as overcoming seeming impossibilities.  Having been Born Again and Born Into the  Kingdom of Heaven, I am unquestionably  “more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.” (Romans 8:37).  Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible in my Kingdom, as there is nothing impossible for my Sovereign King.  May my revised lyrics to this classical song bless you, as it blesses me:

Something has changed within me

Nothing within is quite the same

I’m through with playing by the rules

Of someone else’s game

Too late for second-guessing

Too late to go back

It’s time to trust my instincts

Close my eyes and leap!

It’s time to

Defy gravity

I will

Defy gravity

And you can’t pull me down!

I’m through accepting limits

’cause someone says they’re so

Some things I cannot change

But till I try, I’ll never know!

Too long I’ve been afraid

Now I’m ready to fly and

Defy gravity

I’m defying gravity

And you can’t pull me down:

Jesus, I love what we do together.

With You I’m unlimited

There’s no fight we cannot win

 You and I

Defying gravity

With you I Defy gravity

Nothing can bring me down!

So if you care to find me

Look upward to the sky!

As someone told me lately:

“Everyone deserves the chance to fly!”

And if I’m flying solo

At least I’m flying free

To those who’d ground me

Take a message back from me

Tell them how I am

Defying gravity

I’m flying high

Defying gravity

And nobody in all the world

No one that there is or was

Is ever gonna bring me down!
